The National Conference on SHG Federations - Challenges and Way Ahead,
Pune was organized by Chaitanya in collaboration with Bank of
Maharashtra, College of Agricultural Banking (CAB) of Reserve Bank of
India (RBI), Enable (formerly known as National Network of Resource
Organisations), Friends of Women’s World Banking (FWWB), National Bank
for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Sa-dhan, State Bank of
India and Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration
(YASHADA) on 4th and 5th of March 2009 at YASHADA and CAB respectively.
Objectives
Create a platform among different stakeholders of the Self Help Group
(SHG) movement to share and understand:
- Current status and different models - social, financial and
livelihood - of SHG federations
- Issues and challenges faced by federations especially those related
to capacity building based on SHG networks and funds flow
- Policies of national organizations to support SHG federations
- Discuss measures to address challenges and enhance flow of resources
to facilitate SHG federations
The conference brought together 120 representatives of various stakeholders
of the SHG movement in India, such as SHG members, Federation leaders
and representatives of Self Help Promoting Institutions from 12 states
of India, Policy Makers, Training Institutions, Technical Support
Institutions, National Networks, along with representatives from various
Banks and Experts from the field of SHGs and Micro Finance.

Consultative Policy Workshop on SHG
Federations, 2009, Pune
Chaitanya and Sa-Dhan conducted a one
day Consultative Policy Workshop on October 1, 2009 at the College of
Agricultural Banking (CAB) of Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) in Pune.
Objectives
- Analyze
the SHG federation landscape in India
- Issues hindering the
scaling up of SHG federations
- Possible Information Technology
solutions for wider application of the SHG federation model
- Identify
issues for policy directions that will help successful development of
SHG federations
The workshop was attended by 45 participants
consisting of policy makers and practitioners of Micro Finance. |
